The ELMŰ Inc. assigned our company to make an
environmental survey at 114 object (power distribution and transmitter
stations, oil storage tanks etc.) and oil-insulated cables at a full length of
70 km, operated by the Budapesti Elektromos Művek (Power Company of Budapest),
and to plan the technical intervention for possible oil pollutions caused by
industrial accidents, malfunctions, crimes or other vis mayor events.
During our investigation 399 pcs of soil- and
groundwater sampling borehole was drilled at a depth of 4-10 meters. From these
sampling points 2056 pcs of soil sample, and in most cases groundwater sample
was taken for laboratory tests.
The results of our survey showed that all in
all 100 000 m3 soil and 15 – 20 000 m3 groundwater
was affected by contaminations, which were concentrated at one-third of the
surveyed objects. The basis of the recommended technical intervention
technologies were soil exchange and biological soil treatment methods. In 1998
the intervention would have cost 2-2,2 billion HUF (about 8 million USD).
