In
1993 kerosene contamination was found in the surrounding area of a former railway
oil pumping station (about 280 000 m2) in the 18th district of
Budapest (Szemeretelep), and our company was assigned by MALÉV Inc. to perform
damage control operations and monitoring. The area was characterized by gravel
formations from which about 550 m3 free phase kerosene was skimmed,
and 2 309 672 m3 groundwater was produced and treated during
the remediation process between 1994 and 2000. Based on the monitoring tests this
operation resulted in the complete elimination of the contamination.
