Our company was assigned by MÁV Inc. to survey
the soil and groundwater contamination found in a crude-oil pumping station
operated by their Záhony-Port Diractorate in Komoró, and to plan and do the
damage control and remediation.
The treatment of the groundwater was carried
out with air-stripping technology and pumping wells capable of oil skimming.
During the remediation 133 991 m3 groundwater was yielded and
treated, and 19 349 liters of oil was skimmed (not counting the about
10 000 liters of emulsion which was generated next to the free phase oil).
In case of soil treatment we used enzymatic ex
situ method for about 4470 m3 of the soil, and in situ method by
injecting already treated clean water (soil flushing) and enzymatic fluid in
the geological medium with air-sparging injection wells.
The
contamination was completely eliminated in the groundwater, and the soil contamination
was decreased to a degree that the future risk of the residual contamination
could be easily controlled with monitoring equipment.
