Since 1968, in the region of Záhony and Eperjeske, the cleaning residue of the broad-gauge tracks was deposited in mounds next to the cleaning tracks. The environmental survey and the risk assessment of these waste-mounds (consisting of wood, paper, metals, slough, textile, plastic, hydrocarbons) was made by our company, and the total identified volume of these dumps was about 101 400 m3.
To treating and elimination the industrial wastes in compliance of the environmental regulations was done in consortium by our company, the MÁV-ÉPSZER and the TERSZOL. In addition the GERECS Inc. took part in the technical details, DOPPSTADT Inc. helped with the waste-seletion, and BÁLINT ANALITIKA Ltd. did the laboratory measurements.
During the waste-selection about 100 – 1000 m3 soil was separated as well, which was used for laboratory measurements to detect unexpected contaminations. Ultimately the waste-mounds were completely eliminated.
